Journal Entry: Inside Our Neurodivergent-Friendly Singing Space
Dear Virtuosi,
You know those places where you walk in and instantly feel like you can exhale?
That’s what we wanted PS to be—not just another studio, but a space where every single person can settle in, feel safe, and sing their truth.
For us, creating a neurodivergent-friendly environment isn’t just a tick-box exercise—it’s the heart of who we are. More than half of our PS family identifies as neurodivergent, and every day we’re reminded that when people feel comfortable, supported, and celebrated, they shine brighter than they ever thought possible.
Let’s talk about three ways we’ve built our space with you in mind:
A Sensory-Smart Space
Imagine being able to choose the lighting that feels best for your eyes, adjust the sound so it isn’t overwhelming, or even shift your seating around until it feels just right. At PS, that’s normal. Every room is designed with flexibility in mind because we know no two nervous systems are the same.
With sensory tools always on hand, we’ve watched students move from feeling overstimulated to feeling safe, and from there—creativity just flows. It’s not just about the music; it’s about creating the right environment for the music to happen.
Adaptive Coaching for Every Learner
One of the things we’re proudest of? Our coaches are trained to teach in multiple ways. If one approach doesn’t click, we pivot. Maybe it’s breaking things down step by step. Maybe it’s leaning into visuals. Maybe it’s giving extra processing time or making the lesson more hands-on.
Every voice is different, and every brain is different too. The beauty of PS is that your learning style isn’t something we “work around”—it’s something we work with. Because every singer deserves to feel like their lessons were built just for them.
A Culture of Belonging
This is the part that makes us emotional. Our culture at PS isn’t just about lessons—it’s about belonging. We’ve created a space that’s warm, judgement-free, and genuinely supportive.
And it’s personal for us too…
“I’m neurodivergent myself (ADHD and Autism), and I know firsthand the challenges that can come with navigating traditional learning spaces.”
- Beth, PS Associate Vocal Coach and Studio Manager
That’s why we’ve built a community where being different isn’t just accepted—it’s celebrated.
We’ve seen students blossom in ways that still make us tear up. One of our young singers was completely non-verbal until around age five. Now? He’s not only performing with confidence but also placing highly in eisteddfods and competitions. His voice is heard, celebrated, and cheered for—and that’s what this space is all about.
